What This Site Is
This site is a personal project — one owner's attempt to document what he's learned about Hyundai Motor Group's Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and the vehicles built on it. When the Ioniq 5 debuted, it seemed to me like the first truly livable daily driver family/sports EV for the masses, and it looked spectacular. Then when I was in San Francisco visiting family, I saw my first EV6, and learning these two cars were on the same platform was an eye-opener.
When our Subaru was in the body shop, my wife and I rented an EV6 and fell in love with it. A year's worth of research later, I finally purchased my own. The more I dug into the platform, the more I wanted to put together my own experience with it — the engineering, the known issues, the ownership experience, and the broader context of how three Korean brands built one of the most compelling EV architectures on the market.
Everything here is sourced from owner experience, community forums, service records, manufacturer documentation, and independent testing. Nothing is sponsored. Nothing is affiliated. If something is speculation or unverified, it's labeled as such. This is an enthusiast site, built for other enthusiasts — and for the family and friends who keep asking me why I traded a Jeep Wrangler for an electric crossover from South Korea.
How It's Made
Every page on egmpfiles.com is a collaboration between a human owner-researcher and an AI assistant (Claude, by Anthropic). The AI does the heavy lifting — research synthesis and site code. But the opinions, the editorial calls, the way the information is organized and verified, and the "making it all make sense" part? That's me. This isn't a site I pointed an AI at. It's a site I built with one.
The ICCU report started as my attempt to understand my car, and grew into something bigger. It pulls from NHTSA filings, professional teardowns, semiconductor research, hundreds of owner reports, as well as clarifications and helpful information from electrical engineers who have written to me — all cross-referenced and labeled by confidence level so you always know what's established fact and what's still a best guess. I update it as new data comes in.
At the end of the day, this site is about getting useful information out there — and about my enthusiasm for one of the best cars I've ever driven.
